Program expansion now allows individuals to redirect Pennsylvania state tax dollars to Catholic school scholarships
PITTSBURGH — The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh is making it easier than ever for individuals and businesses to transform their Pennsylvania state tax dollars into tuition assistance for Catholic school students, at no additional cost to them.
Through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) programs, participants can receive a 90% state tax credit by contributing to the diocese’s approved scholarship fund. These contributions are then distributed as tuition assistance to families across the diocese, opening doors for more children to experience a Catholic education rooted in faith, knowledge, and service.
While businesses have long benefited from this opportunity, recent changes now allow individuals with Pennsylvania tax liability to participate as well.
To make the process simple, the Diocese has launched a new online resource, diopitt.org/eitc , offering step-by-step guidance, eligibility information, and a direct link to pledge participation. “When you participate, you’re transforming lives,” said Bishop Mark Eckman, Bishop of Pittsburgh. “Every dollar given through this program helps open doors to a Catholic education that forms hearts, minds, and futures. It’s one of the simplest and most powerful ways to make a lasting difference for our children and our Church.”
How It Works
Eligibility: Individuals and businesses must have a Pennsylvania state tax liability.
Contribution: Donations are made to the Diocese’s approved EITC fund, and participants receive a 90% state tax credit for the amount donated.
Scholarships: Funds are distributed as tuition assistance to students attending Catholic elementary and secondary schools across the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Commitment: Participants typically make a two-year commitment to receive the full tax benefit.
Who Benefits
Individuals and Businesses: Those with a PA tax liability can support Catholic education while receiving significant tax benefits by redirecting their tax dollars to support Catholic education.
Students and Families: Children who meet financial need criteria, receive crucial tuition assistance to attend Catholic schools.
“This is a win-win opportunity for everyone,” said Robert Costantino, CFO. “You meet your state tax obligation and help a student access the lifelong gift of a Catholic education. Our new website makes it faster and easier than ever to get started.”
